Synchronous translation

Synchronous translation is most often used during conferences and official events when the speaker’s language is translated to listeners through headphones. The translator monitors the language from the enclosed room and provides the translation through the microphone. This type of translation requires the necessary additional equipment and specially adapted room.

Synchronous translation is difficult for translators, because they must listen and translate at the same time. Therefore, this translation involves two translators who change every 10-30 minutes.

The advantage of synchronous translation is that it can simultaneously be translated into many languages. If translated into several or more languages – listeners choose which language they want to hear. Similarly, synchronous translation is superior, since there should not be pauses between thoughts or sentences. In this way, delivery takes place more smoothly and does not extend the delivery time.

Consecutive interpreting

During the consecutive interpreting, the translator directly engages in a conversation or presentation and consistently translates each thought. If a long thought is spoken – one or more sentences are translated. The speaker or the participant of the conversation regularly pauses and gives the interpreter time to provide the translation.

If slides are used for the presentation, it is especially popular to provide a translation per slide. If the amount of information in the slide is quite high – the translator writes down the main ideas. This translation of one slide usually takes from 5 to 15 minutes.

Consecutive interpreting is popular for training and product presentation, technical issues discussions, meetings, negotiations, business lunches and during travel.

Consecutive interpreting is a convenient way to translate presentations or trainings when an enterprise faces a random need. This type of translation does not require special equipment and specially adapted premises.
